What are the uses of propylene carbonate?

2026-01-20

Acrylic carbonate, English name: Propylene carbonate, CAS number: 108-32-7, molecular formula C4H6O3, is a colorless and odorless flammable liquid at room temperature. It can be miscible with ether, acetone, benzene, chloroform, vinyl acetate, etc., soluble in water and carbon tetrachloride, has strong absorption capacity for carbon dioxide, and is stable in properties.

Acrylic carbonate can be used as a plasticizer for adhesives and sealants, as well as a curing accelerator for phenolic resins and a dispersant for water-soluble adhesive pigments and fillers. It can be said to have a wide range of uses, such as:

1、 Used as UV curable coatings and inks;

2、 Used as a gas chromatography stationary phase and solvent, as well as for the synthesis of high molecular weight polymers;

3、 Used as an oil solvent, olefin and aromatic hydrocarbon extractant, carbon dioxide absorbent, etc;

4、 Polar solvents: used as plasticizers, spinning solvents, water-soluble dyes, and dispersants for plastics.

5、 As an excellent medium for lithium batteries in the battery industry, propylene carbonate as the electrolyte for batteries can withstand harsh light, heat, and chemical changes.

6、 Acrylic carbonate (108-32-7) is an efficient solvent used to remove carbon dioxide from petroleum gas, petroleum cracking gas, oilfield gas, and synthetic ammonia feed gas;

7、 Acrylic carbonate can also replace phenolic resin as a wood adhesive and is used in the synthesis of dimethyl carbonate.

8、 It also has certain applications in geological beneficiation and analytical chemistry.
